Brij-35 (Polyoxyethyleneglycol dodecyl ether) is a commonly used detergent in HPLC applications. Among its uses is its inclusion in the preparation of o-pthalaldehyde and ninhydrin solutions for derivatization of amino acids. Brij-35 has also been used to prevent nonspecific binding to gel filtration and affinity chromatography supports. Brij is a non-ionic detergent useful for the isolation of functional membrane complexes. The detergent is compatible with the BCA Protein Assay and has characteristically low UV absorbance at 280 nm.
