SDS (Sodium Dodecyl Sulfate) |
When resolution is the key, this is the ideal detergent.
SDS (C12) Highlights:
- Greater than 99% alkyl sulfate
- Greater than 98% C12 alkyl sulfate
- Contains a low level of hexadecyl sulfate C16, which inhibits protein renaturation
SDS (Lauryl) Highlights:
- Unique distributions of carbon chain lengths is advantageous in resolving viral proteins during gel electrophoresis
- Can be used when renaturation after SDS-PAGE is required (if gels are treated according to the procedure of Blank, et al. to remove C14 and C16 alkyl sulfates)
