Direct approach for estimation of protein carbohydrate content.

The Thermo Scientific Glycoprotein Carbohydrate Estimation Kit includes six purified glycoprotein standards and the required assay reagents to effectively estimate the amount of oxidizable glycosylation (% carbohydrate by weight) of purified protein samples. Use the kit to verify whether a purified antibody is glycosylated before attempting to perform carbohydrate-based conjugation or immobilization chemistries with hydrazide reagents.

How the Assay Measures Carbohydrate Content:

The protein sample under analysis is oxidized and reacted with the exclusive Glycoprotein Detection Reagent. The resulting colored complex is read at 550 nm. From the absorbance of the resulting complex at 550 nm the approximate percentage of carbohydrate in the glycoprotein under analysis can be estimated.
