What is IFN gamma?
Interferon gamma (IFNg or simply IFNg) is a Th1-type, pro-inflammatory cytokine that is actively involved in almost all phases of immune and inflammatory responses, including macrophage activation, antibacterial immunity, antigen presentation, activation of the innate immune system, lymphocyte-endothelium interactions, Th1/Th2 balance, and cellular proliferation and apoptosis. IFN gamma is primarily secreted by T cells and natural killer cells (ref 1). Because interferon gamma is involved in so many aspects of the immune response; it has been identified as a potential therapeutic agent, target, and/or marker for a variety of autoimmune and infectious diseases involving the immune system. IFN gamma has been identified as a useful adjuvant therapy in patients with pulmonary atypical Mycobacteriosis (ref 2). Reduced IFN gamma levels were detected in the nasopharyngeal aspirates (NPA) from infants with severe respiratory syncytial virus (hRSV) bronchiolitis (ref 3). Suppression of airway T cell IFN gamma production may reduce acute graft rejection in lung transplant patients (ref 4). The interferon gamma ELISPOT is a key method for assessing clinical trials for HIV and cancer vaccines (ref 5).

IFN gamma ELISA Kits
Thermo Scientific IFN gamma Colorimetric ELISA Kits are complete, ready-to-use kits for quantification of interferon gamma. The ELISA kits feature a simple procedure, small sample-volume requirement (50µl per well) and fast, accurate results. Human and mouse ELISA kits are available in 1-plate, 2-plate, and 5-plate kit sizes. The 5-plate kits offer the space-saving convenience of bulk packaging.

IFN gamma Screening Sets and ELISA Reagents
We also offer a full line of ELISA development sets and reagents. Thermo Scientific IFN gamma ELISA Screening Sets contain the core components (pre-titered coating antibody, detecting antibody, SA-HRP, TMB substrate and calibrated standards) to conduct five 96-well colorimetric ELISAs. Interferon gamma screening sets have been validated for the quantification of IFN gamma in 100µl per well of culture supernatant.

IFN gamma ELISPOT Kit and Reagents
Thermo Scientific IFN gamma ELISPOT Kits are complete, ready-to-use kits for the analysis of interferon gamma production at the single cell level. High-affinity antibody pairs, specific plate coating-and-blocking procedures, and optimized ELISPOT reagents yield assays with excellent consistency and sensitivity. The Thermo Scientific TriSpot Human IFNg/IL-2 ELISPOT Kit is a tri-color enzyme-linked immunospot (ELISPOT) assay for the quantitation of single cells releasing both human interferon gamma (IFNg) and interleukin-2 (IL-2). IFN gamma secretion produces blue spots, IL-2 expression produces red spots, and dual secretion is purple.

The Thermo Scientific Human IFN gamma ELISPOT Set contains the basic components (pre-titered coating and detection antibodies and streptavidin-AP) and protocol required to develop ten colorimetric ELISPOT assays for quantitation of the number of cells secreting human interferon gamma. The ELISPOT set offers quality ELISPOT assays at a significant cost savings vs. complete kits.

IFN gamma Recombinant Proteins
Individual interferon gamma reagents are available for researchers looking to develop their own in-house assays or procedures. Thermo Scientific IFN gamma Recombinant Proteins are low-endotoxin recombinants that have been quality-tested for activity in bioassays. Recombinants can be used in cell culture or value-assigned to make standards for quantitative assays.
