New article about imagers vs. film for Western blots

Are CCD camera imagers really better than X-ray film for Western blots?

By Douglas Hayworth

In a new product applications article, research developers of the Thermo Scientific myECL Imager demonstrate that cooled-CCD camera imaging technologies have surpassed traditional photographic X-ray film for detection and quantitative analysis of chemiluminescent Western blots.

Hommema and colleagues explain how recent improvements in CCD technology have enabled the development and commercialization of sensitive, cooled-CCD cameras with higher light-capturing performance than film. Pixel-binning and other imaging innovations provide greater sensitivity, dynamic range, signal linearity and densitometry than scanned X-ray film.
