Component Search

Cleaning out the fridge?

By Jared Snider

Have you ever found an old bottle of buffer in the lab fridge and wondered what kit it belonged to or how it should be properly discarded? Of course! We all have. Projects evolve beyond a particular application, students graduate, and postdocs find greener pastures elsewhere. Yet the myriad of tubes, bottles and accessories that are components of different kits are often forgotten in the lab refrigerator or freezer as a time capsule of sorts. Maybe scientific “mystery meat” would be a better analogy. In any case, identifying the kits to which components belong or determining the best way to dispose of them can be difficult.

Luckily, each Thermo Scientific Pierce Product component has a unique number that can be used to identify the associated kit using our new Component Search page. Generally, searching a component part number on our site will direct you to the Component Search page. The searchable and sortable table provides links to all relevant kit pages where the following information can be found:

  • Product instructions
  • MSDS for all kit components
  • Certificate of analysis for the product (if applicable)
  • Product webpage

Whether you are systematically removing all traces of previous lab members or simply want to reunite an individual component with its kit, the component search will make the task easier. Just remember to wear gloves.
