Luciferase assay system revolutionizes the luciferase assay
Luciferase genes revolutionized reporter assays and Thermo Scientific Pierce has revolutionized the luciferase assay.
It’s a fact that luciferase assays have greater sensitivity over other assays that use traditional reporters. However, the Thermo Scientific Pierce Luciferase Assay System delivers flexibility beyond that of standard luciferase assays. Each of our five luciferase reporter genes, Gaussia, Gaussia-Dura, Cypridina, Green Renilla and Red Firefly, can be expressed individually for single luciferase assays, while the blue or green reporters can be paired with Red Firefly luciferase to perform one-step dual-spectral luciferase assays.

Thermo Scientific Pierce Red Firefly luciferase can be paired with blue or green luciferase reporters to perform one-step dual-spectral luciferase assays.
Performing kinetic assays or have an instrument that only measures flash luciferase activity? We’ve got you covered. The blue Cypridina and Gaussia luciferase reporters are secreted and can be used as sensitive real-time assay markers. Also, each of our luciferase assay reporters can be used to perform luciferase assays with either flash and glow kinetics when using the appropriate kit. Refer to the table below to decide the luciferase reporters that fit your assay requirements, and then follow the links below to product pages as well as resources and articles featuring these great reagents.
| Luciferase | Color | Flash Half-life | Glow Half-life | Sample Type | Secreted |
| Cypridina | Blue | 30 min | 1 hr | Lysate & Media | Yes |
| Gaussia | Blue | <5 min | 1 hr (Dura) | Lysate & Media | Yes |
| Renilla | Green | 5 min | 3 hr | Lysate | No |
| Red Firefly | Red | >30 min | 2 hr | Lysate | No |
