Creatures of Light: Nature's Bioluminescence iPad App

Bioluminescence iPad App

By Jared Snider

The American Museum of Natural History* in New York City recently released a free iPad* app as a companion to their Creatures of Light: Nature’s Bioluminescence exhibition. The app presents an interactive tour of the beautiful world of natural bioluminescence, fluorescence and phosphorescence and describes the wide variety of organisms that generate their own light, the science behind bioluminescence emission and how researchers use it to answer biological questions.

In light of (pun intended!) our recent release of luciferase reporter vectors and assay kits, we thought that this app would be a great way to understand the origins of these reagents and provide a visually stimulating approach to educating people about these important research tools.

This app can be found in the iTunes* App Store.
