Thermo Scientific Pierce Glutathione Magnetic Beads provide a simple, rapid and reliable method to purify glutathione S-transferase (GST) fusion proteins from crude cell lysate prepared from bacteria, yeast or mammalian cells.
The high-performance, iron oxide, superparamagnetic particles are validated and optimized for use with high-throughput magnetic platforms, such as the Thermo Scientific KingFisher 96 and KingFisher Flex Instruments, but the beads also enable premium performance for simple benchtop applications using an appropriate magnetic stand.

| High-performance purification of a GST fusion protein using Thermo Scientific Pierce Glutathione Magnetic Beads. Bacterial cells expressing GST-Rabaptin were lysed, and replicate aliquots were processed with the Glutathione Magnetic Beads in a 96 deep-well plate using a Thermo Scientific KingFisher 96 Instrument. Eluates were boiled in reducing sample buffer, resolved by SDS-PAGE and stained with coomassie dye. Purity and reproducibility were excellent. |
Glutathione S-transferase (GST) is a protein (220 amino acids in length) that is commonly added to the end of recombinant proteins to aid in their purification or detection. Glutathione is composed of three amino acids (Glu-Cys-Gly) and is sometimes abbreviated as (GSH). To make an affinity support, glutathione is immobilized through its central carbon, preserving the essential structure necessary for efficient GST binding. Addition of reduced glutathione in a physiologic buffer is sufficient to competitively displace (elute) and recover the GST fusion protein from the immobilized glutathione.
